Buyers want a date, not a shipping policy
“3–5 business days” makes the shopper do the math. A date answers the question directly.
A date is concrete
“Arrives by Thursday” is easier to plan around than a range of business days on a separate shipping page.
Gifts and deadlines
Birthdays, trips and holidays: many buyers need to know it arrives in time before they order.
Stock and delivery in one line
“In stock” and the arrival date together tell the buyer the product is ready to ship.
A delivery line that keeps itself up to date
Everything you can set in the Delivery Estimate snippet.
A date, calculated daily
Today plus your dispatch days plus your shipping days, so the date moves forward on its own.
Weekends handled
If the date lands on a Saturday or Sunday it moves to Monday. Switch either off if you deliver on weekends.
Only when in stock
Shown for variants that are in stock, hidden for sold-out ones, updated when the shopper switches variant.
Low stock warning
“Only 3 left.” from your real Shopify inventory, below a threshold you choose.
Preorder mode
For products that aren’t shipping yet: your own text, like “Ships end of August”, instead of a date.
Your words, your format
Your in-stock label and sentence in any language. Month names are English, so other languages can use the numeric date.
Add an estimated delivery date in three steps
- 1
Set your days
Enter how many days you need to dispatch and how long shipping takes, pick the date format and write your sentence.
- 2
Copy the code
Copy the generated Liquid. The date is calculated in the shopper’s browser, nothing to connect.
- 3
Paste it under the button
In the theme editor, add a Custom Liquid block below the add-to-cart button on your product page, paste, save.
How to show an estimated delivery date on Shopify
Pick the approach that matches how complicated your shipping is.
Simple shipping: a snippet is enough
If you ship from one place with roughly the same delivery time for most orders, you don’t need live carrier data. A rule like “dispatch in 1–2 days, delivery in 3–4” covers it, and a snippet shows it as a date on every product page.
Complicated shipping: consider an app
If you need order cut-off times, holiday calendars, different dates per country or real carrier transit times, a delivery date app does that, usually for a monthly fee.
Make the date one you can keep
- Be conservative. Add a buffer day. A parcel that arrives a day early is a pleasant surprise; one that arrives late is a support ticket.
- Match your shipping policy. The product page and the policy page should promise the same thing.
- Plan for busy weeks. Before holidays or a sale, raise the days or switch to preorder mode with your own text.
- Check every variant. Sold-out variants hide the line; make sure that’s what shoppers see.
| Delivery date app | Delivery Estimate snippet | |
|---|---|---|
| Calculation | Depends on the app: carrier data, cut-off times, holidays | Dispatch days + shipping days, weekend shift |
| Where it lives | In the app, loaded by its script | In your theme’s code |
| Cost | Free plan or a monthly fee | No subscription |
| Best for | Several warehouses, countries or carriers | One shipping setup with steady delivery times |
What the snippet does and doesn’t do
No cut-off time, no holiday calendar. Every order on a given day gets the same date, and holidays aren’t skipped. Add a buffer or use preorder mode around holidays.
One rule for everyone. All visitors see the same calculation, wherever they are.
Calculated in the browser. The date is worked out from the shopper’s device date when the page loads, so it’s always current without anything running on a server.
Questions, answered
How do I add an estimated delivery date to Shopify?
Set your dispatch and shipping days in the Delivery Estimate snippet, copy the code and paste it into a Custom Liquid block on your product page, right below the add-to-cart button. The date then updates itself every day.
How is the date calculated?
Today plus your dispatch days plus your shipping days. If that date falls on a Saturday or Sunday, it moves to the following Monday; you can switch that off for either day if you deliver on weekends. The days are counted as calendar days, so if your carrier counts business days, add a day or two.
Does it handle cut-off times and holidays?
No. An order at 11 pm gets the same date as one at 9 am, and holidays aren’t skipped. Add a buffer day, raise the days before busy periods, or use preorder mode with your own text. If you need cut-off times or holiday calendars, a delivery date app is the better fit.
Can I show different dates per country?
No, there’s one rule for all visitors. If your delivery times differ a lot between countries, set the days for your main market or use wording that covers both.
What happens when a product is sold out?
The delivery line only shows for variants that are in stock, and it updates when the shopper switches variant. For products that aren’t shipping yet, preorder mode shows your own text instead of a date.
Where does the low stock number come from?
From your Shopify inventory. When a variant’s stock is at or below your threshold, the line says “Only 3 left.” (or your own text). It works for variants where Shopify tracks inventory.
Can I change the wording and date format?
Yes. The in-stock label and the delivery sentence are your own text, with {date} where the date goes, so you can write them in any language. The date can be numeric, short, long or full, with the month or the day first. Month names are in English, so for other languages the numeric format reads best.
What does it cost?
You can browse and customise every snippet without an account. Copying the code needs a free account, which comes with 2 credits and no card. After that you top up credits when you need them: no subscription, and credits never expire.
Tell buyers when it arrives
Set your dispatch and shipping days, write your sentence and paste the code into your theme. No app to install.
